Ironically my edge experiences the same problem. I've found that it has to do with services for some reason. Whenever my voice button stops working I hit the connect to services button under the top right tab then hit the voice button when the services computer operator picks up. Googling brings up a number of solutions to this problem which seems to be common with Fords. This one is from AV forums but there are others out there.
